Yats Wine Cellars Champagne and Sparkling wine tasting in Makati, Manila

Yats Wine Cellars, Philippines a leading wine supplier, held a Champagne and Sparkling Wine Tasting in Makati's Upper East Restaurant and was attended by Manila wine lovers.
The comparative tasting of five dramatically different styles of Champagne and Sparkling-wine changed the impression of many participants who were predisposed to Champagne being all alike except for price tags.
It was a tad surprising that a good number of participants, including some regular Champagne drinkers tasted the German sparklers (called Sekt) for the first time.
Inclusion of Italy’s Prosecco and Spain’s Cava helped to highlight the difference in the five Champagnes/Sparkling-Wines in the lineup, but it was the pink Rosé Sec from the Loire Valley that rocked the boat.
Brut Champagne is more prevalent outside of Europe although Sec is actually a bit more food-friendly, especially for brunch.
Special thanks to Sharlene Golding, F&B director of AHA, for arranging yet another delectable wine-friendly food accompaniment.
As usual guests arrived as early as 5:30pm and reached full-blast by 7:30pm. Wine station closed at 10:30pm but the fun lasted past 11pm.
Pouring size of 70ml didn’t leave anyone drunk although
the general spirit was a little giddy but very convivial
throughout the evening,
In these public wine tastings, there is no sponsor,
promotional banner or sales agenda to irritate us.
It is all having an enjoyable time with wine as an “excuse” for all of us to get to know a little bit more about wine. Many of us get to meet and know a few new friends too.
These are some of the previous events:
1. Old-world wines .vs. New-world wines
2. Exploring older vintages wines (10,15,20,25,30 year-old)
3. Major Styles of White Wine (Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Viognier)
4. New favorites of red wines (Malbec, Barbera, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir)
5. Different styles of Port Wine
I will be announcing the next theme shortly and hope that
it makes enough sense for you wine lovers to attend the next
wine tasting in October.

YATS Wine Cellars regularly hold non-commercial wine tasting to help wine enthusiasts expand their knowledge of wine in a most enjoyable and affordable way.
These tastings are different from other commercial tastings. The wines from these tastings are not sponsored by a wine merchant and there are no salesmen. You are in the company of people from all ages and all walks with one common interest – wine.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at a discount. Each ticket comes with five tasting stubs. The wines are lined up at a wine service station. Present a ticket at this station to surrender the stubs to redeem a tasting pours (roughly 55-60ml per pour) of five wines on the line-up.
Someone will always be available to answer questions or discuss topics pertinent to the theme of the wines in the event. Otherwise the event is a self-paced tasting exercise that is the most structured and economical way to sample interesting wines.
